Who We Are

We are on a Mission to End Sexual Violence Against Athletes.

We Empower Athlete Survivors Through Awareness, Accountability, and Transparency

Sexual Abuse in sports is both pervasive and underreported. Athletes often stay silent because the culture of sport emphasizes compliance and silence. Our mission is to raise awareness of sport-related abuse, hold abusers and enablers accountable, interrupt systems of abuse in sport, and demand transparency so that institutions cannot hide the truth or retaliate against athletes for reporting sexual assault.

Our Team

Our Team: Survivor-Led, Advocating for Safer Sport

The Assist was founded in 2018 by over 40 survivors of sexual assault, perpetrated by a now-imprisoned former sports doctor, enabled by Michigan State University, USA Gymnastics, and the US Olympic Committee. Since then, our leadership has continued to prioritize the voices of survivors to fuel our mission. Our goal is to support every survivor and stop the systemic problem of sexual abuse in sport so that other athletes don’t have to live through the same trauma.

Our Partnerships

Joining Forces to End Abuse in Sport

Over the years, we have developed strong partnerships with other organizations that share in our mission. Together, we work to raise awareness about the pervasiveness of sexual abuse, launch new resources and advocacy efforts that protect athletes and survivors, and develop safeguarding policies on the international stage.

We support athlete survivors and work to reform sport culture through advocacy, education, and resources. Our goal is to eliminate sexual violence against athletes, change systems to prevent abuse in sports, and stand with survivors in their pursuit of justice and healing.
