What We Do: Create Safer Sports and Stronger Futures

We believe sport should be safe for all athletes.

We create policies, resources, and programs to help protect athletes at every level, from youth sports to elite competition. We work with lawmakers and changemakers to advance policy agendas that hold institutions accountable and prioritize athlete safety. We equip athletes, coaches, parents, and sports institutions with tools to recognize, prevent, and respond to abuse in sport. By centering athlete-survivor voices, we strive to create a safer future for all athletes informed by their leadership and experience.

We offer trauma-informed training,  technical assistance, and consultation for safer sports rooted in lived experience with a proven track record of supporting athlete survivors. Our team brings a unique combination of subject-matter expertise and systems-level understanding to help individuals, organizations, and institutions build safer and more transparent athletic environments.

ASLSN is an initiative designed to support, empower, and elevate athlete survivors of abuse in sport directly. Through three distinct programs, Athlete Survivor Peer Support, Athlete Survivor Speakers Collective, and Trauma-Informed Survivor Advocacy, ASLSN offers immediate support and community connections, as well as long-term opportunities for healing, leadership, and systemic change.

Through educational programs like Compassionate Coach® and Compassionate Parent™ we equip sports communities and families with trauma-informed tools and strategies to foster safer environments for athletes.

We advocate for the transparency of safe sport systems, stand up for athlete rights, and promote prevention strategies to end abuse in sport through our policy work at national and international levels.

We provide trauma-informed resources to help athletes, coaches, parents/guardians, service providers, and sports institutions recognize the signs of sexual abuse in sport and take proactive steps to prevent it.

Our Impact

We create lasting change by empowering athletes, advancing legislation, and reforming systems to ensure that athlete safety is prioritized across all levels of sport

Our Team: Survivor-led, Advocating for Safer Sport

The Assist was founded in 2018 by over 40 survivors of sexual assault perpetrated by a now-imprisoned former sports doctor, enabled by Michigan State University, USA Gymnastics, and the US Olympic & Paralympic Committee. Our shared experience fuels our mission to stop the systemic problem of abuse in sports and supports every survivor so that other athletes do not have to live through the same traumas.
