The Army of Survivors is now The Assist

Stand With Us. Sexual Violence in Sport Ends Here.

We confront sexual violence in sports by amplifying survivor voices, advocating for lasting systemic change, and equipping communities with tools and knowledge to protect athletes at every level.

Our Mission

We Are Not Just a Statistic.

Nearly 6 million young athletes are survivors of sexual abuse in the context of sport. The actual number is probably even higher, due to under-reporting.

The Athlete Survivors’ Assist (The Assist) is a survivor-led nonprofit that exists to create a future where every survivor feels empowered, every athlete feels protected, and abusers and enablers are held accountable. Together, we can transform the culture of sport and create a safer environment for all athletes.

02

Education

We shift the culture in sport by:

  • Developing trauma-informed curricula that focus on prevention, intervention, &  response to abuse in sport.
  • Conducting training, technical assistance, and consultation for sports governing bodies on how to create trauma-informed institutions that center athletes.
  • Educating athlete survivors interested in elevating their voice to create systems change through our trauma-informed survivor advocacy series.

Resources

We support the empowerment of survivors, their families, coaches, and the broader community to take meaningful steps in safeguarding athletes. Central to this is recognizing grooming/unhealthy behaviors in sports, identifying signs of abuse, and taking a trauma-informed approach to healing and accountability pathways.
