What We Do

Trauma-Informed Survivor Advocacy

Advocating for Change in Sport, LED BY SURVIVORS

We are dedicated to the advancement of trauma-informed systems change, laws and policies at the state, national, and international levels that support survivors of sexual abuse in sport.

The Trauma-informed Survivor Advocacy program includes learning how to:

  • Educate lawmakers and other changemakers on advancing policy changes that support athlete survivors.
  • Garner public support for athlete survivors and promote athletes’ rights
  • Elevate survivor voices to shape and lead advocacy efforts
  • Create public awareness around the prevalence of sexual violence in sport, prevention strategies, and safeguarding best practices
  • Promote trauma-informed policies and practices for sports institutions and governing bodies to better protect athletes, promote healing and improve accountability

“Together, we have made meaningful strides in our ongoing work to protect athletes, elevate the voices of athlete survivors, and create systemic change throughout the sporting world.”

Trauma-Informed Survivor Advocacy Training (TISA)

TISA Explained

What is TISA?

Trauma-Informed Survivor Advocacy (TISA) training is a four-session virtual program designed specifically for athlete survivors who want to step into advocacy roles. Led by trauma-informed and systems reform experts, TISA provides a foundation in legislative and policy-making and supports survivors in sharing their lived experiences to drive change in sport culture and policy.

Personalized Support

Our Core Values: Advocacy and Safety

TISA is a personalized process. Each participant receives guidance on refining their advocacy message, preparing for legislative and institutional meetings, and learning how to advocate effectively while honoring their own emotional and psychological boundaries. Survivor well-being is at the heart of the entire experience.

Accessibility

Always Free, Accessible for All

TISA is, and always will be, free of charge for athlete survivors. Rooted in accessibility and equity, the program is committed to removing barriers so that survivors from all backgrounds and experiences can engage in systems change without financial burden.

What’s Next?

The Future of TISA

Following a successful pilot, The Athlete Survivors’ Assist is expanding TISA in 2025 to reach more survivors. This growth includes developing formal educational materials and strengthening program infrastructure.
